Crash has made package uninstallable

Recommended Posts

Midway through installing a package, my entire computer system hung. No idea what happened, but I had to kill my Mac and reboot. Now when I try to install that package again, it refuses to install, returning error code 7 but no further information. I'm guessing there are temporary files somewhere that are getting in the way of running the installer. Anyone know where those files might be so I can delete them and try again? I already wiped what I could find in the VI Package Manager "cache" directory. That didn't help.

I didn't realize this was on the Mac OS, I thought you were in Parallels. Can you provide more details on the error code? Can you paste the full error message? Error code 7 does not give enough info. Also, if you can locate the error log, that would help as well.

Here's the full error report:

Main Package Name: ESF - Extensible Session Framework v1.1.0.5

Package Name with Error: ESF - Extensible Session Framework v1.1.0.5

Error Message: VIPM could not install the package ni_tool_esf-1.1.0.5 .

Error Code: 7

Is this an unpublished package not available over a repository?

Does it show up in the main package list?

If so, do the following:

  • Exit VIPM
  • Find the location of the cache: HD/Applications/JKI/VI Package Manager/cache
  • Make a backup of it to another temp directory
  • Delete all the contents.
  • Restart VIPM and add the package and try to install it.
